Artist pour their heart and soul into the music they make with hopes of being recognized on some platform at the end of the day. ASCAP made it a point to reach out to those artist this year, by giving a huge payout for 2013 thus far. More info below:

The American Society of Composers, Authors, & Publishers (ASCAP) is pleased to announce that more than 1.8 million in cash awards for 2012-2013 was distributed to songwriter and composer members by The Society’s ASCAP Plus Awards panel. The purpose of these special awards, which have been given each year since 1960, is to award writers whose works have a unique prestige value for which adequate compensation would not otherwise be received, and to compensate those writers whose works are performed substantially in media not surveyed by ASCAP. Close to 3,100 songwriter and composers members of ASCAP received Plus Awards in their January 2013 distribution.
