According to sources at YouTube, with 18.9 million views worldwide on the day of its release (April 13), PSY’s “Gentleman” set the mark for the most views for a video in its first day on the site. Since the title premiered at 5 a.m. PDT, the 18.9 million views were earned in less than 24 hours.

To provide some context around this achievement, PSY’s sum is more than 8.3 million views more than the current record holder of the accredited “VEVO 24-Hour views,” which belongs to Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj’s “Beauty and the Beat” video (10.6 million views on October 13, 2012). For YouTube as a whole, the now infamous KONY 2012 video currently holds the record for the most views in a single day for any video, with over 30 million views in a 24 hour period.

The 3:54 long track is Psy’s first official follow-up to “Gangnam Style,” the first video clip ever to reach 1 billion views. It now stands at 1.5 billion worldwide views.

“Gentleman” has already reached the top of the iTunes’s charts in several countries and is poised to make a splash on the on the Billboard charts when they are released later this week. [Billboard.biz]
