http://misstheda.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/republicrecords-1350934136_600.jpgThis morning, we’re introducing a new series that shows how the labels fared during the most recent completed week, based on the HITS album chart. The chart immediately below reflects the weekly marketshare competition in terms of new-release album sales. Tomorrow, we’ll post the weekly Top 10 with TEA. Starting next week, the new-release chart will appear on Wednesday mornings and the TEA chart will post on Thursday mornings.

ALBUMS, NEW-RELEASE SHARE
Republic
12.4%
Atlantic 10.8%
RCA 7.9%
UMG Nashville 6.9%
Warner Bros. 5.6%
Sony Music Nashville 4.9%
Columbia 4.2%
Interscope Geffen A&M 3.9%
Capitol Music Group 3.8%
Island Def Jam 2.6%

Republic, which has been locked in a battle with RCA for #1 in year-to-date marketshare, takes the top spot for the week, thanks primarily to the combined impact of The Band Perry (#6), the debuting Tyga (#7) and Volbeat (#8), Lil Wayne (#9) and Florida Georgia Line (#13). Atlantic has been pulled along all year by Bruno Mars (#12 this week), but he got some support from Paramore, which bowed at #1. RCA continues its recent roll behind the potent combo of Justin Timberlake (#3) and P!nk (#14). UMG Nashville’s highest charter was #4 Eric Church (Capitol Nashville). And we’re still trying to figure out how Warner Bros. came in #5; the label’s highest finisher was Device at #11.  [HitsDailyDouble]
