Hot Tours: Bon Jovi Scores Big Box Office Numbers, Springsteen Rolls to No. 2

Bon Jovi tops this week’s Hot Tours tally with box office grosses reported from the final 19 venues on the band’s initial jaunt through North America along with a pair of shows in South Africa. Total ticket sales revenue from all 21 performances in this week’s report is $41.4 million, bringing the overall gross from the tour to $68 million since its February 10 launch.

Since the Because We Can Tour’s kick off earlier this year, a total of 658,568 tickets have been sold at 37 concerts on both the North American leg and the stint in South Africa. The tour’s top-grossing performance so far is the final appearance in South Africa on May 11. That concert was held at the largest soccer stadium on the African continent, Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium. The sold out show drew more than 65,000 fans, grossing just over $9 million (US$) at the box office.

Among Bon Jovi’s concerts at North American arenas reported during the past week, the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas produced the top gross: $2.8 million from 13,782 sold seats on April 20. The largest crowd was logged at Louisville, Kentucky with a sellout crowd of 17,881 in the house for a March 14 concert at the KFC Yum! Center.

Three concerts from the European leg of the Wrecking Ball World Tour give Bruce Springsteen this week’s No. 2 Hot Tours ranking based on ticket sales revenue totaling $7.8 million. A stadium show in Copenhagen on May 14 grossed over $5.1 million from a sellout crowd of 49,017 at Parken Stadion which holds about 38,000 for a soccer match but can seat up to 50,000 for concerts. Jyske Bank Boxen, a 15,000-seat indoor arena in Herning, Denmark drew a crowd of 14,938 on May 16, and an outdoor event was held in Naples, Italy on May 23. Attended by almost 12,000 fans, the concert was held in Piazza del Plebiscito, one of the largest public squares in Naples and an occasional site for open-air events. [Billboard.biz]
