Developer Andrew Meyer has introduced Neural – a ‘simple, elegant’ interface for Ableton Live 8/9, that allows you to launch clips and more.
Neural’s 8 track by 16 scene interface allows you to launch and stop clips, toggle clip looping, launch scenes, and mute/solo/arm tracks. Live’s on-screen red box shows which clips you are controlling, and you can drag with two fingers to select which group of clips you’d like to control.
The red box will also preview which clip or scene you are about to launch, so you can drag to your clip or scene and release to fire without taking your eyes off of Live’s interface.
Neural can also be used without looking at Live. Clip, track, and scene names and colors are automatically downloaded and will update in realtime. There are also on-screen indicators showing you which clips are playing, clip looping status, and mute/solo/arm status for tracks.
Neural uses network MIDI, so setup is simple. No OSC setup or IP addresses are required. Network MIDI is already native to Mac and can be installed for Windows.
Neural is available for $9.99 in the App Store.
