As Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do continues to conquer the singles top spot, Imagine Dragons’ new entry reshuffles the UK album charts, with their second album, Smoke and Mirrors, in at No 1.
The US rock band earned their first UK chart-topper with the followup to their 2013 debut Night Visions, which peaked at No 2.
Self-produced by the band alongside British hip-hop producer Alex Da Kid, the new entry budged the Grammy winning Sam Smith down one place to No 2 with In The Lonely Hour, while Ed Sheeran’s X similarly slipped one spot to No 3. Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late also fell to No 4 and Scottish band Texas are in at No 5 position with their anniversary album, Texas 25.
Meanwhile, the singles charts is a little more stagnant: Ellie Goulding remains the UK’s most popular with her Fifty Shades of Grey track, notching up a third week at No 1 and breaking an all-time streaming record with Love Me Like You Do.
It sold more than 118,000 copies this week, according to the Official Charts Company, and set a new UK audio streaming record by accumulating 2.58 m listens in the past week, soaring past previous record holder Mark Ronson, with his single Uptown Funk.
No 2 in the singles chart is Hozier’s Take Me To Church, spending its 23rd week in the Top 40, Uptown Funk is at No 3, followed by The Weeknd’s Fifty Shades track Earned It and Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s collaboration FourFiveSeconds is at No 5.
Taylor Swift’s new single Style climbed 29 places and makes its Top 40 debut at 36.
