Peace cover Charli XCX's 'Doing It' during Maida Vale live session - listen

Peace have covered Charli XCX’s ‘Doing It’ in a live session on BBC Radio 1.

The band appeared on Zane Lowe’s Maida Vale sessions, where they were asked to cover a song of their choice. They opted for Charli XCX’s latest single and admitted that they’d only heard the track when it was played on Radio 1 recently.

Frontman Harry Koisser described coming across the song and realising, “Oh my god, this song is so good!” He said he contacted Charli – who he had previously duetted with on a cover of David Bowie’s ‘Fame’ in New York – to express his admiration. “It was like the stars aligned for a moment,” Koisser said. You can listen to the full interview below.

Peace also played two tracks from their forthcoming album ‘Happy People’: their latest single ‘I’m A Girl’ and ‘Some Day’. The band recently revealed to NME that ‘I’m A Girl’ was inspired by actress Emma Watson’s HeForShe speech about gender equality.

In the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, Koisser explained how he began thinking about gender stereotypes after he found himself unable to identify with modern lad culture.

“Once, I was waiting for someone on Digbeth High Street, wearing a fur coat,” he recalled. “Two Irish guys came up to me and were like, ‘You’re a queer, come here and let me kick you in your balls.’ So many things you can tell me to come here for and I will, but not that.”
