Mariah Carey has re-signed to Epic Records, 15 years after leaving the record label.
According to Billboard, Carey is believed to be making an album featuring updates and duet versions of her biggest songs.
Carey’s return to Epic sees her reunite with Doug Morris, who signed the singer to Island Def Jam in 2003. Morris is now CEO of Sony Music, Epic’s parent company. The multi-album deal will be overseen by Antonio LA Reid, the producer who helmed Carey’s multi-platinum album The Emancipation Of Mimi in 2005.
News of the deal coincides with Carey’s forthcoming residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The shows, which will be called #1s, will see Carey sing each of her 18 US No 1 singles from 1990’s Visions Of Love to 2008’s Touch My Body.
Carey’s most recent album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse was released in 2014. Her final album for Def Jam, it reached No 3 in the US and No 14 in the UK. It featured collaborations with Nas, Miguel, Wale and Fabolous. It has sold 117,000 copies in the US, the lowest-selling of Carey’s career.
Carey’s most recent UK Top 40 single was #Beautiful, a duet with Miguel, which reached No 22 in 2013. [NME]
