Kendrick Lamar has been announced as Stephen Colbert’s first musical guest as he takes over as host of The Late Show.
Stephen Colbert will begin his new job on September 8, replacing David Letterman as the host of the US late-night show.
Ahead of the show’s new-look relaunch, Variety has reported that Lamar will team up with Colbert once again, having previously been the final artist to perform on The Colbert Report, the TV presenter’s former Comedy Central show.
Pavement‘s Bob Nastanovich recently said that the group were invited to reform for Colbert’s new show. However, this claim was later denied.
Kendrick Lamar, meanwhile, recently delivered disses at hip-hop rival Drake on Dr Dre‘s recently released album ‘Compton’.
‘Compton’ is the former NWA star’s first album in 16 years, following on from 1999’s ‘2001’. As well as his protégé Lamar, the LP features Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and more.
On the track ‘Darkside/Gone’, Lamar appears to make reference to Drake’s recent track ‘Energy’, rapping: “But still I got enemies giving me energy I wanna fight now/Subliminally sent to me all of this hate/I thought I was holding the mic down”.
Meanwhile, on ‘Deep Water’, he namedrops both Drake’s hit ‘Started From The Bottom’ and recent mixtape track ‘6 God’, saying: “Motherfucker know I started from the bottom” and “They liable to bury him, they nominated six to carry him/They worrying him to death, but he’s no vegetarian/The beef is on his breath, inheriting the drama better than/A great white, nigga, this is life in my aquarium”.
Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s rivalry dates back to 2013, with Lamar calling out Drake on his ‘Control’ guest verse.
