Jay-Z’s legendary career turns a new page soon, as he enters the realm of movie soundtracks. Hov is making and producing music for the upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby. A press release through Reuters announces that the goal for Jay is to meld contemporary and period music together, to infuse hip-hop’s cool into the jazz aesthetic that reigned supreme during the time period covered by F. Scott Fitzgerald in his classic novel.

To put together the musical component of the movie, Jay will be working with composer Craig Armstrong and music supervisor Anton Monsted.

The director of the movie, Baz Luhrmann, was introduced to Hov by actor Leonardo DiCaprio two years ago, as the rapper was recording the song “No Church in the Wild.” Coincidentally, that song has been used in early trailers of the movie, which is set to come out May 10.
