Kendell 'Young Sav' Freeman Named Vice President of Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group

Kendell Freeman, aka “Young Sav,” formerly the Mixshow manager at Def Jam Records, has been named the vice president of rapper Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, the label announced today. Maybach Music Group is part of Atlantic Records’ portfolio and features artists such as Meek Mill, Wale, and Rick Ross himself.

“Feels great calling one of the hardest workers and few people I consider a close friend the new VP of MMG,” said Rick Ross in a statement.

Freeman’s immediate superior will be Ross himself, with Freeman’s charge being to grow the careers of the label’s existing roster and, naturally, developing and finding new artists for the label.

“Kendell a.k.a Young Sav’s talent and knowledge helped redefine the lifestyle approach to marketing and promoting some of the biggest names in hip-hop,” said Shawn Pecas Costner, SVP of Def Jam Records. “He’s one of a kind.”

At Def Jam, Freeman worked projects featuring the likes of Jay-Z, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Trinidad Jame$ and Rick Ross. Earlier in his career Freeman worked at TVT Records, breaking new music for the independent label’s urban acts like Lil Jon & Eastside Boyz, Pitbull and the Ying Yang Twins.

Said Freeman: “I am extremely excited to embark on this new path in my career. I appreciate Ross for noticing my grind, work ethic and giving me a major opportunity to not only be apart of this label, but also help execute his vision. It’s going to be a privilege to work with the brand and assist in taking it to the next tier. All of the artists on the roster are amazing. I’m ready to get to work.” [Billboard.biz]
