Rock band Vampire Weekend is winging its way to a second No. 1 album next week. Its new Modern Vampires of the City album, released yesterday (May 14), may sell around 120,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday (19), according to industry forecasters.

It could mark the act’s second No. 1, following its last release, 2010’s Contra. It opened in the penthouse with 124,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Aiming for the No. 2 slot next week is either Demi Lovato’s fourth album Demi, or George Strait’s latest, Love Is Everything. Both albums might sell between 100,000 to 110,000 copies.

The new Billboard 200 chart’s top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, May 22.

Lovato’s last album, 2011’s Unbroken, started at No. 4 with 96,000. She previously opened at No. 1 with her sophomore set, Here We Go Again, in 2009 (108,000 in its debut). Her first album, 2008’s Don’t Forget, debuted and peaked at No. 2 off an 89,000 launch.

Country legend Strait is no stranger to No. 1, as he’s claimed five earlier chart-toppers. His last studio effort, 2011’s Here for a Good Time, debuted and peaked at No. 3 (91,000), while the set right before that, 2009’s Twang, launched at No. 1 (155,000).

Other albums aiming for a high debut on next week’s Billboard 200 include Amy Grant’s How Mercy Looks From Here, Trace Adkins’ Love Will, Escape the Fate’s Ungrateful and Dillinger Escape Plan’s One Of Us Is the Killer. [Billboard.biz]
