Pink’s upcoming tour of Australia is officially a record-breaker.
The pop superstar’s “The Truth About Love Tour” of Australia has swelled to 46 arena shows, including a record-busting 18th date at Melbourne’s 15,000 capacity Rod Laver Arena. The new Melbourne show (on Aug. 26) was added to cope with “sustained unrelenting demand,” promoters Live Nation Australia said today — though that city’s 18-show stretch is “definitely final.” She beats the venue record she set herself, on 2009’s “Funhouse” tour (the Rod Laver Arena opened for business in 1988).
To date, Pink’s tour has shifted more than 500,000 tickets, the concerts giant confirmed. And the city of Melbourne — with its population of 4.25 million — has accounted for more than 200,000 ticket sales.
As impressive as those numbers are, Pink’s 2013 tour will be dwarfed by her last trek of these parts. Her “Funhouse” trek criss-crossed the country for 58 arena dates, and shifted more than 650,000 tickets. No other solo artist in the history of Australia’s touring business can boast such figures.
