Cory Monteith, a star of the Fox series Glee, was found dead in Vancouver on Saturday, police in Vancouver have confirmed. The Los Angeles Times reports that the body of the 31-year-old actor was discovered at the Fairmount Pacific Rom Hotel shortly after noon after he missed his check-out time.
Although a cause of death has not yet been determined, Vancouver Police acting Chief Constable Doug LePard said that foul play has been ruled out. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Monteith had entered treatment for drug and alcohol addiction in March, and had been open about his longtime struggles with substance abuse. His girlfriend and co-star Lea Michelle released a statement when he went into rehab saying that she would “stand by him through this.”
Monteith had been a popular fixture on Glee since the show started in 2009. In 2011, his portrayal of quarterback-turned-singer Finn Hudson won him a Teen Choice Award for top actor in a comedy, and the whole cast won a Screen Actors Guild Award for ensemble work in a comedy in 2010.
