The N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton is without a doubt one of the most anticipated film’s of 2015. The movie tells the story of the how Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and others formed the controversial gangster rap group in the 1990s, but one of today’s biggest hip-hop stars may also have a presence in the film.
The legendary Ice Cube took to Instagram on Wednesday and posted a photo from the set of the film with a group that included Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar. The photo is by no means a confirmation that the TDE rapper will make an appearance in the film, but the dots connecting K. Dot to the film are now closer than ever. Neither representatives for the film nor Kendrick’s label have responded to inquires about a possible cameo as of yet.
While Kendrick making his acting debut in a film about the iconic rap group from his hometown would be both awesome and fitting, another possibility might be that Kendrick could be involved in the film’s soundtrack. We’d certainly welcome Kendrick joining A$AP Rocky among the new generation of emcees stepping into film, but some new music inspired by the N.W.A. biopic sounds like a pretty good alternative. Then again, maybe K. Dot will deliver on both the acting and music fronts for Straight Outta Compton.
Following five years of studios playing a game of hot potato with the project, Straight Outta Compton will finally see a theatrical release on August 14, 2015. The film stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ice Cube’s real-life son, as Ice Cube, Jason Mitchell as Eazy E, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, and Paul Giamatti as Jerry Heller. You can watch the first trailer for the film here.
