Facebook has been rolling out the ability to buy a variety of goods for months, and since summer they’ve talked about getting in live concert ticketing. Today, their talk turned into action, and its likely a boon for small artists and venues.
Facebook is launching a Buy Tickets” button to sell tickets without leaving the app or site. No electronic or paper tickets will be issued, with the purchased tickets available for pickup at the venue’s door or Will Call.
So far, “Buy Tickets” is only being tested small group of independent venues, event promoters and artists in the San Francisco area, Buzzfeed has confirmed.
Facebook’s move into ticketing could be a good option for small venues and artists; and it could be great for fan club and VIP sales. But don’t expect Facebook to replace Ticketmaster or any of the larger ticketing services who offer a multitude of services and have long term contracts, any time soon.
