LONDON – British pop singer Cliff Richard, who will turn 73 next month, plans to release his 100th album in November.
“The Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll Songbook” is set to come out on Nov. 11.
With more than 22 million singles sold in Britain, “Cliff Richard is the most successful British male singles artist of all-time and second only to Elvis Presley overall,” The Official Charts Company, which tracks U.K. music sales, said Thursday.
His worldwide record sales are estimated to amount to around 250 million.
Among the performer’s best known songs are “Devil Woman” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”
Over this 55-year long music career, Richard has released 47 studio albums, 35 compilation albums, 11 live albums and six soundtrack albums, the Official Charts Company said. He has also pulled off the rare feat of having a number 1 single in the U.K. in five different decades.
While having reached the U.S. top 40 with several of his singles in the U.S., Richard isn’t as widely known in the States as in the U.K. and other countries.
Recorded at the Blackbird Studio and The Parlor in Nashville, “The Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll Songbook” will see the singer cover tracks from the likes of Presley, Little Richard and Buddy Holly.
“This was my chance to pay tribute not only to – in my humble opinion – one of the greatest advances in musical history, but also the artists who took rock ‘n’ roll to the top of the charts worldwide,” Richard said Thursday. “That whole period was new and unbelievably exciting, and to think that I was there!”
