Unlike some of his peers, Pusha T was not offended when he heard his name called out on Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse. Instead of firing back, the G.O.O.D. Music MC applauded his peer and even joined forces with him on “Nosetalgia.”
“Kendrick is an artist who I would classify as the new generation,” said Pusha of the Compton MC. “He’s like the voice of the new generation, I believe.”
During his listening party in New York, Kanye West got on the mic to deliver his now famous “Everything Is Pusha T” rant, which even caught Pusha off guard.
“I didn’t know where that was gonna go, but I was just hoping that everybody taped it and they did,” he told Rap-Up TV. “He went on one of his rants. It’s nothing I’m new to. We speak candidly about our perception of the culture and where it is and what we’ve started, what we’ve been innovators of, and what trends we’ve set. We talk about that stuff all the time. I didn’t know he was ready to share that with everybody else.”
When Kanye called out Jimmy Kimmel for spoofing his BBC interview, it was just Kanye being Kanye, says Pusha, who jumped to his defense.
“People just really need to understand that he’s really no nonsense,” said Pusha. “He’s very passionate about everything he’s telling to the people. He means it. Nine times out of 10, he’s enlightening you or showing you the way or proving that he knows what he’s talking about. I feel like when someone makes light of it, he may take it to heart. I’m Team Kanye. I don’t really care about the other guy.”
