Ella Henderson, who finished sixth in the ninth series of The X Factor in 2012, made a triumphant start to her album career in the U.K. yesterday (Oct. 19), opening at No. 1 with her debut set Chapter One (Syco Music/Sony Music). Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” (Epic/Sony) started a third week atop the singles chart, seeing off the challenges of Taylor Swift and One Direction.

Henderson had a No. 1 single in the U.K. in June with “Ghost” and followed it with “Glow,” which debuted at No, 7 last week. That fell to No. 17 on the new chart as “Glow” rebounded 22-16. Ed Sheeran’s X and Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (Capitol/Universal) held their places at Nos. 2 and 3 on the album survey, with George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage (Columbia/Sony) falling to No. 4 after two weeks at the top.

There were no fewer than five new entries in the top ten, led by Jessie J’s Sweet Talker (Lava/Republic/Universal) at No. 5. The physical release of U2’s Songs of Innocence (Universal Island) gave it a No. 6 start, with the newly-reunited 1980s hitmakers Spandau Ballet’s The Story – The Very Best Of (Rhino/Warner Music) in at No. 8.

Jessie Ware’s sophomore set Tough Love (Universal Island/PMR) arrived at No. 9 and You+Me, the acoustic duo featuring Pink and Dallas Green, at No. 10 with rose ave. (Columbia/Sony). Keep Calm and Chillout (Sony Music CG) started a fifth week atop the compilation chart.

Trainor’s single had a combined chart sales figure for last week of 109,000, according to the Official Charts Company, 14% of which came from audio streams. That’s the third week in a row that “All About That Bass” has returned six-figure sales.

Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” (EMI/Universal) moved up to a new peak with a 4-2 hike, as One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” (Syco Music/Sony) came in at No. 3. Sheeran jumped 10-4 with “Thinking Out Loud,” and Jessie J’s “Bang Bang,” featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, fell 2-5.

EMI/Universal boy band The Vamps climbed 46-9 with “Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart),” featuring Canadian singer Shawn Mendes. The track is adapted from Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water album track “Cecilia.” Eminem’s “Guts Over Fear” (Interscope/Universal), featuring Sia, debuted at No. 10.
