John Corigliano is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential American composers of the last half century. As such, he is among the few contemporary composers to earn widespread notoriety outside the world of contemporary classical music. Among Corigliano’s many awards are five Grammys, an Oscar, a Grawemeyer Award, and a Pulitzer Prize. He continues to write for the orchestra and smaller ensembles, and teaches composition at Lehman College and The Juilliard School.
