As a result of Nicki Minaj refusing to perform at Hot 97′s Summer Jam 2012 over the weekend due to comments made by HOt 97′s Peter Rosenberg prior to her set, Nas, who was only scheduled to perform one song, attempted to fill the vacancy left by Minaj by bringing out the legendary Lauryn Hill.
After performing a few of his own hits (“Bravehearts,” “Made You Look,” and “Hate Me Now”), Nas brought out Lauryn, who walked out on stage as DJ Green Latern dropped the Fugees’ classic, “Ready Or Not.”
Ms. Hill, who awed NYC with a headlining show at Highline Ballroom the night before (Sat., June 2) — continued to compel with nostalgic cuts such as “Lost Ones” and her collaborative track with Nas, “If I Ruled the World.”
So instead of NYC getting to witness one of the rap’s current divas, they got to witness one of the most legendary emcees to ever hold a mic. Not a bad trade off if you ask me. Hopefully Nicki was taking notes. Check footage of Nas & Lauryns’ performance below.
