Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean is making big waves on the charts with channel ORANGE. The Odd Future singer’s major-label debut put up impressive numbers to enter at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

ORANGE, the follow-up to 2011’s Nostalgia, Ultra, sold 131,000 copies in its first week, according to Billboard. The majority of sales were digital, with only 3,000 coming from physical CDs.

The album was released as an iTunes exclusive a week in advance of its scheduled July 17 date. Following its digital release, physical retailers were told to start selling the CD as soon as it arrived in stores. Target, however, refused to carry ORANGE as a result of the early iTunes release.

Ocean trumps the first-week sales of Usher’s Looking 4 Myself (128,000) and comes close to Chris Brown’s Fortune (135,000). The latter, which opened at No. 1 last week, falls to No. 4 with 45,000 sold in its second week. –Rap Up
