Janet Jackson has questioned the legitimacy of Michael Jackson‘s will and has decried a “media campaign” against her family.

Janet, along with her brother Randy and sister Rebbie, released a statement late on Friday (August 4) saying the executors of their brother’s will are causing harm by damaging “fundamental family relationships” and isolating their mother Katherine Jackson “from anyone questioning the validity of Michael’s will”.

On Thursday, a judge named Tito Jackson Jr, who is a cousin to Michael’s three children, as a co-guardian of the will after it was reasoned that Katherine Jackson “may be prevented from acting as a guardian because of the acts of third parties”.

The statement, released by Janet Jackson’s attorney, Blair G Brown, read: “Since the loss of Michael, Janet, Randy, and Rebbie’s principal concern has been and continues to be for the safety and well-being of Michael’s children, their mother Katherine Jackson, and the entire family. Unfortunately, those people have been harmed by the actions of the executors of Michael’s estate.

“The negative media campaign generated by the executors and their agents has been relentless. (They) also recently issued a notice barring Janet, Randy, and Rebbie from visiting their 82 year old mother and Michael’s children. The effect of that notice not only is to damage fundamental family relationships, it is also to isolate Katherine Jackson from anyone questioning the validity of Michael’s will.”

Michael Jackson sibling’s claim they have nothing to gain financially by finding that the will is invalid, their statement added:

It is important to stress that Janet, Randy and Rebbie have questioned the validity of the will with no financial motive whatsoever and will continue to press forward in their search for the truth in order to carry out the wishes of their brother Michael.

The executors of Michael Jackson’s will, John Branca and John McClain, had previously said: “Any doubts about the validity of Michael’s will and his selection of executors were thoroughly and completely debunked two years ago when a challenge was rejected by the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the California Court of Appeals and, finally, the California Supreme.”

Brothers Tito and Jermaine Jackson have withdrawn themselves from the family’s bid to remove Branca and McClain as executors of the will. [NME]
