“Big” Jon Platt, former president of North America creative at EMI Music Publishing, has been named to the same post at rival Warner/Chappell Music.

Based in Los Angeles Platt will report to Warner/Chappell prexy Cameron Strang.

Speculation about Platt’s destination had been swirling in the industry since his exit from EMI in June, just as the sale of the pubbery to a consortium led by Sony/ATV Music was completed for $2.2 billion.

During 17 years at EMI, Platt excelled at signing top writing talent in the hip-hop and pop arenas. He personally brought in Jay-Z, Kanye West, Usher, Drake, Ludacris, Mary Mary, Young Jeezy and Snoop Dogg. He also took an assist in the signings of Beyonce, Pharrell Williams and Sean Combs. EMI’s pub arm was the consistent market leader during Platt’s tenure.

Strang said in a statement, “Jon’s character, his leadership skills and his ability to identify, sign and nurture talent combine to make him one of the top executives in the music business. His unwavering commitment to songwriters and their music has led to his continued and long-term success. His approach makes him a perfect fit with Warner/Chappell and an outstanding addition to our senior team.” [Variety]
