Hot 100
As previously reported, Bruno Mars bounds to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, as “Locked Out of Heaven” rises 2-1 in its 10th week on the chart. And Mariah Carey’s 1994 classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” enters the tally’s top 40 for the first time, re-entering at No. 29.
What other acts make notable moves on the Hot 100 and other singles charts?
— Tamar Braxton: A singer scoring her first Hot 100 hit claims Hot Shot Debut honors, but her R&B chart history dates to the 1990s. In 1999, Tamar Braxton (who then went by Tamar), sent “Get None” (featuring Jermaine Dupri and Amil) onto Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, reaching a No. 59 peak. Thirteen years and two reality television shows later (WEtv’s “Braxton Family Values” and “Tamar & Vince”), Braxton’s “Love and War” debuts at No. 57 on the Hot 100 and No. 12 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, as well as No. 1 on Heatseekers Songs. The track from chart veteran Toni Braxton’s youngest sister starts at No. 3 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs with 84,000 downloads sold in its first week of availability, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

[expand title=”More” swaptitle=”Less” trigpos=”below”]— Taylor Swift: “I Knew You Were trouble,” the second pop radio single from her No. 1 album, “Red,” nabs the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer award for a second consecutive week, bounding 32-15. The song blasts 52-27 on Hot 100 Airplay with a 53% increase to 38 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS. Pop radio leads the way, as the track races 23-17 on Mainstream Top 40 and 29-21 on Adult Top 40 as the Greatest Gainer on both charts. Sales should keep the song’s momentum strong: it graces the Hot Digital Songs top 10 (11-5; 129,000, up 59%) for the first since it bowed at No. 1 (and No. 3 on the Hot 100) the week of Oct. 27 as a then-“Red” preview track.
— Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: “Thrift Shop” (featuring Wanz) surges 28-21 as the Hot 100’s top Streaming Gainer winner. After the pair’s independently released album “The Heist” stormed the Billboard 200 at No. 2 the week of Oct. 27, the track is making inroads at radio. It’s up to No. 27 this week on Alternative (thanks to select adventurous stations in the format) and No. 29 on Rhythmic, with a debut on Mainstream Top 40 on tap. The song’s combined exposure translates to a 10-4 leap on On-Demand Songs (892,000 on-demand streams, up 35%, according to BDS).
— Maroon 5: “Daylight,” the follow-up to “One More Night,” the group’s longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1 (nine weeks), enters the Hot 100 at No. 77. It scales Adult Top 40 (30-24) and Mainstream Top 40 (38-28) and bows on Pop Digital Songs at No. 42 (20,000, up 74%).
— Nicholas David: New at No. 96, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” the signature song from “The Wizard of Oz” graces the Hot 100 for only the second time, again spurred by TV exposure. Prior to David, of NBC’s “The Voice,” former “American Idol” finalist Katharine McPhee reached No. 12 with her version in 2006.
— The Killers, Dropkick Murphys: Two acts bring holiday cheer to Billboard rock charts. The Killers dash onto Hot Rock Songs at No. 41 with “I Feel It In My Bones,” featuring Ryan Pardey (14,000 first-week downloads sold), while Dropkick Murphys decorate Rock Airplay at No. 49 with “The Season’s Upon Us” (1 million in audience, up 76%, according to Nielsen BDS).
