In an escalating battle for digital music customers, Amazon.com has optimized the Amazon MP3 Mobile website for Apple’s massively popular iPhone and iPod touch. The optimization should make it easier for Amazon to poach sales from Apple’s iTunes Store.
The Seattle-based Fortune 500 company said today in a statement that the optimization will satisfy pent-up demand for more Amazon sales on the runaway hit Apple products, after the release of Amazon’s Cloud Player app for iPhone and iPod touch.
“A top request from customers has been the ability to buy music from Amazon right from their devices,” said Steve Boom, Vice President of Amazon Music in a statement.
The Amazon MP3 Mobile website has been optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch web browser Safari, and uses next-generation web language HTML5, the company stated.
The Amazon MP3 Mobile website will offer Apple hardware owners competitive Amazon music deals like $5 albums, $.69 songs and free songs. Amazon.com has a U.S. library of 22 million songs, and offers free storage of all Amazon purchases in Amazon’s Cloud Player.
Apple, Google, and Amazon continue to compete for cloud-based mobile entertainment market dominance, with rival music and video stores, as well as rival cloud services to manage customers’ content. [Billboard.biz]
