Two documentaries on the Eagles will premiere on Showtime in mid-February. “History of the Eagles, Part One” will premiere on Feb. 15 with “History of the Eagles, Part Two” airing a day later.

The Eagles and Showtime will make the official announcement today at the Sundance Film Festival. “Part One” will have its world premiere tonight (Jan. 19) at the festival with Don Henley, Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit in attendance.

Oscar winner Alex Gibney (“Taxi to the Dark Side,” “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room”) produced the two films with Alison Ellwood (“Magic Trip”) directing. “Part One” covers the band’s formative years up through their breakup in 1980. “Part Two” starts with Henley and Frey’s solo careers and covers the reunion with Walsh’s sobriety as a subplot. Gibney and Ellwood will do a Q&A after the premiere of the film at the Eccles Theater.

The Eagles will be on hand this afternoon at the Acura Studio to discuss the film and kick off the online auction of an autographed acoustic guitar to benefit the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter in Park City, Utah.

“History of the Eagles, Part One” will also screen Jan. 20 in Salt Lake City, Jan. 22 in Ogden, Utah, and on the 21st and 26th in Park City. Further theatrical screenings are yet to be determined. [Billboard.biz]
