Facebook is testing a “buy tickets” button that takes consumers to a third-party site to purchase tickets. The button has been spotted on Facebook pages for events in Europe that are ticketed by Ticketmaster and Eventim, Europe’s largest ticketing company.
The appearance of the ticket button was reported Tuesday by the blogAllFacebook. The Next Web blog followed with a post that notes Facebook appears “to be testing the ability for event hosts to include a ‘Buy Tickets’ link directly in their pages.” The Next Web found source code that shows the “Buy Tickets” link is a dedicated field created by Facebook. A buy link spotted for an event in the Netherlands links to a Ticketmaster page while one spotted at the Facebook page of an Israeli promoter links to an Eventim page.
Inside Facebook reported last week that Facebook had started testing the “buy tickets” buttons that will send users to other sites. It explained that promoters and venues could previously offer a ticket link using bit.ly rather than a dedicated button. Inside Facebook reports these “buy tickets” buttons show up a user’s upcoming events section and News Feed as well as in event’s main page. “Facebook gets paid for the click and advertisers can easily track their conversions,” the report says.
