Nicholas Allen, C.A.S., was born in London, England in 1965. He has been married for 14 years and is father of three boys. He is a film and television production sound mixer with twenty-seven years’ professional experience and in his work combines new technology and proven practices.
He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and has been an active member of IATSE Local 695 since 1986. As a boom operator, he was part of the three-time Academy Award nominated and Award-winning team for Terminator 2: Judgement Day with Lee Orloff (production mixer), and spent five years booming the Emmy award-winning NBC show The West Wing with Patrick Hanson (production mixer).
He currently leads the sound team on the popular NBC series Parenthood. He draws from his experience in both music and production sound and calls his team GreeNoyz. Ronald Wright and Charles Homyak, boom and utility, continue as his sole crew since he progressed to production mixing. He is integrating non-linear multitrack open-framework capture (to computers, not dedicated single function machines) into mainstream media, replacing technologies like dedicated two-track recording.
Nicholas enjoys flying and sailing giant all electrically-powered RC vehicles, and is beginning his own farm of 3D printers. He is an avid pilot who keeps an antique 1956 Cessna within the Los Angeles flying community. [SoundWorks]
