Twitter, which is reportedly building a music application, has a deal to integrate Vevo videos into the application, according to Peter Kafka at AllThingsD.
The micro-blogging site dubbed is working on an application called Twitter Music, designed to help people find new music, according to a report from CNet on March 13.
The application is being built by We Are Hunted, a small Australian developer that recently relocated to San Francisco, said CNet, which at the time predicted that an iOS version of the app could debut by the end of March.
Now, it seems Twitter is going after content companies to beef up its offering, including SoundCloud for full tracks, iTunes for previews and Vevo for videos, Kafka reports.
We Are Hunted has technology that taps into message boards, P2P networks, blogs and social media to serve up a continuously updated list of 99 songs trending online. The company’s novel approach to music discovery led Twitter to buy the company last year.
The Brisbane company, founded in 2007, has focused on building apps and widgets as a third-party developer for platforms such as Spotify and Winamp.
Through a proprietary search technology, the company scours the Web to surface up-and-coming artists whose songs have struck a chord with listeners.
“Looking at music this way, we detect sentiment, expression and advocacy to better understand what people like and dislike at any given moment,” according to a description on We Are Hunted’s website.
At press time, reps for Twitter and Vevo had not responded to Billboard’s requests for comment. [Billboard.biz]
