As previously reported, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis log an historic No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, as “Can’t Hold Us” (featuring Ray Dalton) follows their “Thrift Shop” (featuring Wanz) to the top, making the act the first duo ever to reign with their first two Hot 100 singles. Who else makes noteworthy moves on the Hot 100 and other song charts this week?
— Selena Gomez: Gomez scores her first top 10 on Hot Digital Songs, where “Come & Get It” bounds 14-9 with a 27% increase to 115,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It also passes one million in sales since its release. The song’s official video premiered on Tuesday (May 7), which should spur a jump for it on next week’s Streaming Songs chart (where it climbs 40-36 this week).
On the Hot 100, “Get” grows 23-14. With Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” at No. 12, the Hollywood label boasts two titles in the chart’s top 20 for the first time since Aug. 29, 2009, when Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” bounded in with a No. 2 debut and Disney’s Friends for Change (aka, Cyrus, Gomez, Lovato and the Jonas Brothers) bowed at No. 20.
— Florida Georgia Line: As the twosome’s former Country Airplay No. 1 “Cruise” crowns Hot Country Songs for a fifth consecutive (and 10th cumulative) week, follow-up “Get Your Shine On” steps 2-1 on Country Airplay. The coronation marks the first time any new duo has gone two-for-two atop the radio tally with its first two entries since Brooks & Dunn managed the feat with “Brand New Man” and “My Next Broken Heart” in 1991. (They added two more No. 1s out-of-the-gate in 1992).
— Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: Clearly it’s a good week for duos reigning on Billboard charts with second No. 1 hits following breakthrough No. 1s (see Florida Georgia Line item above). As they take over atop the Hot 100, Macklemore & Lewis likewise notch their second topper on the Rhythmic airplay chart in as many tries, as “Can’t Hold Us” lifts 2-1. “Thrift Shop” led Rhythmic for eight weeks. The duo is the first act to send its first two Rhythmic chart entries to No. 1 since Yung Joc ruled with “It’s Goin’ Down” (for four weeks) and “I Know You See It,” featuring Brandy “Ms. B.” Hambrick (one), in 2006.
— Arianna: Having reached No. 5 on Dance Club Songs last month, “Sexy People (The FIAT Song)” from the Italian singer enters the Hot 100 at No. 97. The track is powered by 1.7 million U.S. streams (up 428%), according to Nielsen BDS, with the song’s video gaining extra attention for starring Charlie Sheen. The activity drives the track to a No. 33 debut on Streaming Songs.
— Device: The group reaches the top of Mainstream Rock with its first chart entry, “Vilify,” which rises 3-1. The song concurrently crowns Active Rock (2-1). While it’s the hard rock band’s first Mainstream Rock appearance, frontman David Draiman has been a regular presence on the chart since 2000 as a member of Disturbed, which has logged 15 top 10s, including three No. 1s. Device’s self-titled debut set opened at No. 4 on Top Rock Albums (where it ranks at No. 23 in its fourth week this week) and has sold 56,000 copies.
— Mariah Carey: Ahead of its likely impressive debut on the Hot 100 next week, following a full week’s worth of airplay, plus opening digital sales and streaming data, “#Beautiful,” featuring Miguel, begins at No. 39 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (and, as previously reported, No. 44 on Hot 100 Airplay), based on only two days of spins. Island Def Jam teamed with Clear Channel to premiere the song, spurring hourly plays for it from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on 230 radio stations in the chain on Monday (6). The unveiling of the song reached 31 million in audience over the last two days of the chart’s airplay tracking period.
Check Billboardbiz on Monday (13) for a recap of the song’s expected debuts on a bevy of airplay rankings, while Wednesday will bring news of its Hot 100 arrival. [Billboard.biz]
