Macklemore & Ryan Lewis rise 2-1 on Billboard’s Nielsen BDS-based Mainstream Top 40 radio airplay chart with “Can’t Hold Us,” featuring Ray Dalton, With its prior breakthrough single “Thrift Shop,” featuring Wanz, having spent two weeks atop the survey in March, the act becomes the first duo in the chart’s 20-year history to take its first two entries to No. 1. (The duo boasts the same honor in the Billboard Hot 100’s nearly 55-year archives.)

“Hold” also sets a Mainstream Top 40 weekly plays record, garnering  14,991 spins last week (or 94 plays per reporter).
Nine other acts have begun their Mainstream Top 40 histories with at least two toppers: Lady Gaga (six), Ace of Base, Avril Lavigne (three each), Christina Aguilera, Bounty Killer, Mariah Carey, Taio Cruz and Jason Derulo and Sugar Ray (two each).

Meanwhile, Macklemore & Lewis’ follow-up single “Same Love,” featuring Mary Lambert, debuts on Mainstream Top 40 at No. 35. It holds at its No. 21 peak in its 10th week on Alternative.

PUNK POWER:

Last week, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” bounded 12-8 on Hot 100 Airplay, becoming the duo’s first top 10 on the all-format radio list. This week the pair adds its first Mainstream Top 40 top 10 as the track pushes 12-9.

Daft Punk reached No. 33 with its only other Mainstream Top 40 entry, 2001’s “One More Time.”
 
‘RIGHT’ ON:

Rihanna debuts on Mainstream Top 40 at No. 37 with the club-ready “Right Now,” featuring David Guetta. The song marks RiRi’s record-extending 36th entry dating to the chart’s Oct. 3, 1992, inception. (Thus, careers by acts like Mariah Carey and Madonna predate the list’s launch.)

Rihanna additionally holds the records for the most No. 1s (10) and top 10s (23) in the Mainstream Top 40 chart’s archives. The feats helped her claim the honor of the chart’s top artist of its first 20 years when Billboard celebrated the anniversary last fall.

‘STOP’ WATCH:

And, Miley Cyrus notches her first Mainstream Top 40 hit since 2010, as “We Can’t Stop” debuts at No. 40 following its first week of airplay. The song is the lead track from her forthcoming fourth studio album, her first on RCA Records after releasing her previous catalog on Hollywood. (She also released several “Hannah Montana”-related albums through Hollywood’s sister imprint Walt Disney.)

Having premiered “Stop” on June 3 on “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest,” KIIS Los Angeles leads all reporters, along with KMVQ San Francisco, each with 50 plays for it in the June 3-9 tracking week.
