Yet again, The Rolling Stones are No. 1 in the weekly ranking of Hot Tours with ticket sales revenue reported from the sole Chicago engagement on the band’s 50 & Counting Tour, currently on the road in North America. The Stones played three sold out shows at the Windy City’s United Center on May 28, 31 and June 3 with total attendance logging in at 43,763 for the three nights. The $16.5 million box office total is the tour’s top-grosser thus far among reported North American venues and second only to London’s O2 Arena where grosses topped $17.1 million from two performances last November. The 50 & Counting Tour, in celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary, has already surpassed $89 million in overall ticket sales since beginning last fall in Europe.
Kenny Chesney lands in second place on the Hot Tours ranking with $4.7 million in sales from two concerts on his No Shoes Nation Tour, currently booked in arenas and stadiums through the end of August. This week’s box office stats come from two venues in the Midwest: an arena and a professional baseball stadium. The arena date was a sellout with just over 10,000 in attendance at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana on May 16. A stadium performance followed two days later at Miller Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers. One of 17 stadiums on Chesney’s tour itinerary in 2013, the Milwaukee venue drew a crowd of 43,314 with ticket sales topping $4.3 million.
Legendary rocker Paul McCartney takes the No. 4 slot among the week’s tally of Hot Tours with a $3.8 million gross from two shows in Austin, Texas as his Out There! Tour continues its brief North American leg before heading to Europe later this month. Austin was one of six cities on the tour’s first trek through U.S. markets. Performances in Orlando, Memphis and Tulsa are already in the books, and shows on June 8 and 10 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and an appearance at Bonnaroo on the 14th will wrap the first North American leg.
The O2 World arena in Berlin reported its box office totals from the first five months of 2013, propelling both Beyoncé and P!nk to slots on the Hot Tours list this week. Beyoncé is No. 5 among the 10 top-grossing tours with more than $2 million in sold tickets reported from her two sold out shows at the 15,000-seat arena on May 23 and 24. P!nk takes the No. 10 ranking based on a single performance on May 3. Her concert, with a crowd of 14,513 in attendance, was also a sellout. [Billboard.biz]
