Surviving Doors drummer John Densmore says he and guitarist Robby Krieger are planning a tribute event for their late bandmate Ray Manzarek, who died of cancer back in April.

Densmore had only recently reconciled with both Robby and Ray before Ray’s death, and he tells RollingStone.com it “really feels nice to connect again.”  He adds that he suggested to Robby in an e-mail a few weeks ago that they should make their musical reunion for Ray.

Densmore says he’d like for them to get together with other musicians they know who love and admire the band and play some Doors songs at the Whisky or Wiltern in Los Angeles.  He adds that he told Robby he’d “like to break the ice that way.”

While no specifics on the event have been announced as yet, John says it should happen pretty soon.
