After rapper/producer will.i.am filed a notice of opposition against fellow hitmaker Pharrell Williams last week over the latter’s new brand, “i am OTHER,” Williams has decided to hit back with a full-on lawsuit of his
own.
In Pharrell’s suit, he claims that his use of “I Am” is completely different from will.i.am’s use. He explains that will.i.am uses the phrase in a fashion similarly to Dr. Suess, who in the children’s book “Green Eggs and Ham,” features the famous character of Sam I Am.
“In contrast, the I Am Other mark means ‘I am something else,’ leaving what that ‘else’ is to the imagination of the consumer,” reads the suit. “It certainly does not mean ‘I am Will.'”
Pharrell is seeking written permission to keep using the “I Am Other” trademark.
