Stephen Colbert likes rap but he likes to call out the bs even more. Therefore, the TV host decided to poke fun at the expense of Kanye West and his really expensive A.P.C. collaboration. You know, the capsule collection that had included the $120 plain-spoken white tee that had everyone – including menswear writers – up in arms a few short weeks ago.
Well, add Colbert to those piling on at Yeezus’ expense, mocking the collection by declaring his intentions to release “Hip-Hop tube socks” and other rap-branded products. Dah well, ‘Ye can’t win them all but it also goes to show what those outside the Hip-Hop community think of rap: it’s a cash cow and all they need to do is align themselves with the right artist and there’s a built-in buying community ready to purchase whatever product is being pushed on them.
I mean, how else do we explain Snoop Dogg doing Overstock.com TV ads?
