Kanye West wasn’t charged with a felony for his tussle with a paparazzi in July, but now the rapper has to deal with a lawsuit from the photographer.

Daniel Ramos, who is being represented by high-profile lawyer Gloria Allred, is suing West for assault, battery and interference with his civil rights (presumably free speech), TMZ reports. Ramos said he needed crutches for two weeks after the altercation and still uses a cane to walk through current pain. Allred said the incident sets a precedent for celebrity violence against photographers; she’s also pursuing a protective order for Ramos against West.

West got into a fight with Ramos last month at Los Angeles International Airport. Video captured by TMZ showed the rapper passing through many flashing bulbs and turning to speak to one of the photographers. “What you’re trying to do is get me in trouble, so I step out and have to pay you like $250,000,” West said. He then ran towards Ramos, trying to wrestle the camera away from him before Ramos fell to the ground.

Last week, the L.A. County district attorney’s office decided to not file a felony charge against West but did refer the case to the city attorney, who could still file a misdemeanor charge.
