HANS ZIMMER is one of the most successful, influential and prolific film composers of his generation. Having won countless awards (including an Oscar accompanied by an embarrassment of academy nominations). HZ’s scores have underscored a generation of hugely successful films, that have turned over billions of dollars, countless awards and critical acclaim. Hans has defined not only a compositional style, but also production approach and sonic innovation that has influenced a generation of composers. Hans trail-blazed and combined early sample technology with orchestral elements which defined a new age of writing for screen big and small. He created the opportunity for composers to represent their intentions to directors before recording the orchestra itself. He made orchestras cool again. In so doing he also innovated and pushed the envelope of a new orchestral genus.

It is often forgot that by developing this technological approach he also provided a roadway for creatives the world over with dreams of orchestral compositions to realize them without years of theoretical study.

Spitfire Audio are delighted and honored to present a series of products produced by Hans Zimmer and his diamond class team of grammy winning engineers, musicians and technicians. Where Hans Zimmer’s style approach to sonic creation is often copied or emulated we’re proud to present to the world at large HZ’s definitive take on his trailblazing approach to cinematic percussion production. Herein lies not an emulation or synthesis of his approach, but a recreation. The same studio, musicians, instruments, signal chain and talented engineers, sitting alongside a decade of experience, innovation and refinement overseen in every detail by Hans himself. The same excruciating attention to detail, perfection but most importantly the endless choice for tweakability and customization you’d expect of the greatest of sound-smiths.

PRICE TBC RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 2013 Recorded at Air Studios via an unsurpassable signal chain. 96 rarefied microphones, into Neve Montserrat pre-amps, the world’s biggest Neve 88R desk (which was exhaustively re-gained at every dynamic layer for optimum signal quality), via a dual chain to HDX and Prism converters running at 192k. Over 30TB of raw data from these sessions alone. The London Ensembles sessions feature the cream of Hans Zimmer’s hand picked percussion corps playing a distillation of a decade’s worth of musical experimentation and innovation. This is not an imitation of techniques explored in his numerous multi-billion dollar blockbuster back catalogue. It is a truthful recreation. Each instrument has been mixed by a selection of long-serving Zimmer collaborators a selection of Grammy winning engineers for their own “take” on the Hans Zimmer experience, including Junkie XL*, Geoff Foster, Alan Meyerson, Steve Lipson* and Hans himself.

All drums have been recorded deeply with up to 9 Round Robins and 6 Dynamic layers per instrument. Most instruments have a variety of articulations, sticks and beaters as to recreate and expand on favourites from HZ’s private collection. The timpani ensemble should be of particular interest, it’s Hans’ take on how a kettle drum should sound. The resonance and cross chatter between three timps ringing in sympathy in one of the greatest recording spaces in the world will be the talking point of this library.

The library will be released with the above mentioned mixes alongside a cherry picked selection of mics from Geoff Foster for your own infinite tweaking and customization.
