Contostavlos was arrested after acting as a go-between for an £800 cocaine deal, and today the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the singer had been charged and faces prosecution. The deal was set-up as part of a sting operation by The Sun On Sunday, and an undercover reporter caught a conversation with Contostavlos on tape where she claimed to have connections to a large amount of drug dealers. A deal eventually took place, and the journalist exchanged £800 with a dealer named by Contostavlos.
The CPS London Chief Crown Prosecutor Baljit Ublhey gave this statement today: “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge Tulisa Contostavlos, 25, with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. This charge relates to an investigation by The Sun newspaper between early March 2013 and 23 May 2013 which resulted in the supply of Class A drugs to an investigative journalist.
“This decision to prosecute was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors. We have determined that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest. Ms Contostavlos will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 19 December 2013.” [Via NME]
Now is as good a time as any to remember grime loudmouth Big Narstie’s humourous comments back in June when the investigation first came into public view. You can take a look below, it’s very good value, as always.
