Focusrite Audio Engineering this morning announced a ‘dream recording competition,’ in celebration of the company’s 25th Anniversary.

Focusrite is giving one entrant an opportunity, for the winner and three bandmates, to record a track with Grammy Award-winning producer Guy Massey at AIR Studios in London, UK.

The contest winners will spend an all-expenses-paid weekend in the legendary AIR Studios, where Focusrite’s original recording console modules, designed by Rupert Neve, still reside.

Producer Guy Massey (The Beatles, Manic Street Preachers, Ed Sheeran) will be at the helm of the recording session, helping the contest winner to craft a song to perfection before recording and mixing their track. Finally, the finished song will be sent to one of London’s finest mastering engineers.

The contest was announced concurrently with the debut of a new documentary, embedded above, about the genesis and history of the classic Focusrite Studio Console, considered by some to be the finest studio console ever made.

Only 10 Studio Consoles were ever made, and six remain in operation to this day. The documentary tells the stories of these consoles and the people who used them.
