Meek Mill Is Suing the City of Philadelphia

Meek Mill was arrested on Halloween in 2012 after Philadelphia cops claimed they smelled marijuana coming from his car—but there was none to be found once he was searched. However, Meek says the cops arrested him after he refused to let them search his car initially.

The arrested resulted in him missing a flight to Atlanta—the private jet cost him $22,000 and he missed an appearance at an Atlanta club, which would have made him around $39,000. Now, he’s suing the City of Philadelphia for false imprisonment, invasion of privacy, and for the money they cost him that night.

Additionally, he was in talks with Puma for a $2 million deal, but only received $650,000 after news of his arrest hit the blogs. He vented about it on Instagram a few years back, as well:

Following his 2012 arrest, MTV News reached out to Philly police spokeswoman Julian Russell who says Meek was never arrested. “He was stopped in a vehicle but was not arrested. He was only detained in a substation. In normal cases, we do not give out this kind of information, so I can’t release anything further,” she told them at the time.

We’ll update with more information as it becomes available.
