Ryan Lewis, who released the Grammy Award-winning album The Heist in 2012 with Macklemore, says the duo is set to embark on its next phase.

“Obviously going into the studio and doing another full length album together is the immediate [step],” Lewis says in an interview with Prologue. “In the long term, I would love to make another album that is really receptive to people. I would love to make another album that is culturally relevant. I would love to be one of the few artists that hits a point of success and can go back into the studio and make another album that matters and relates to people and not go back in and be super tainted by this whole thing. That would be the immediate goal.”

Lewis has another goal, as well. The producer says he hopes to one day work with Rick Rubin.

“Rick Rubin is just in his own fucking world,” Lewis says. “Rick Rubin is super intriguing to me because he has become this god producer in completely drastically different genres, which very few people have done.”

In 2013, Lewis discussed his work with Macklemore in an interview with HipHopDX. “What was cool about The Heist was that it was a unique process for a lot of reasons,” Lewis said at the time. “We spent three years on it. That in and of itself is unusual, particularly for the Hip Hop genre because people are just cranking out records. We spent a long time on all those songs. And I think you’re spot on. It was a record that had so much collaboration involved from the amount of features that were doing hooks and the vocals on there to the variety of instruments…there’s just textures from all over the place. I think spending that much time on a record enabled me to pursue a wide variety of ideas.”
