Officials with Vanderbilt University say the school has purchased the Sony Music Nashville building on Music Row in Nashville, near Vandy’s campus.
Vanderbilt officials say administrative staff who work in leased office space surrounding campus will be consolidated in the Sony property and that it will also be used for academic purposes.
According to the Nashville Business Journal, Vanderbilt paid $12.1 million for the 80,000 square foot building.
The university already occupies 27,000 square feet of the building, while Sony and affiliated companies take up the rest. Concert promoter Live Nation is another tenant of the building, which was built in 1916 but underwent renovations in 1999.
Vanderbilt said Sony would lease space in the building “for a flexible period of time” after closing. Sony Music has not commented on the sale.
The Business Journal also reports that Sony is poised to trade Music Row for a new space two miles away in the Gulch neighborhood, on the southwest edge of downtown Nashville.
