Image for Heading to Burning Man? This helpful infographic shows you how not to die

This coming Monday August 25, 50,000 adventurers, artists, Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and Average Joes will descend upon Nevada’s Black Rock Desert playa for Burning Man 2014, the annual week-long not-for-profit celebration of radical self-reliance and expression, art-creation, nudity, Bacchanalian revelry and the joy of watching something massive burn to the ground.

Because of its very nature – being in the middle of the desert, where temperatures generally hit around 35-degrees Celsius during the day and where everything (water, food, shelter) must be brought in – Burning Man is renowned for being as physically tough as it is wantonly debauched. To that end, Fest 300 magazine has produced the handy infographic below, which explains the things you need to keep in mind to stay safe during your week on the Playa.

Besides the obvious – like ‘drink lots of water’ and ‘take a first aid kit’ – it also includes some more specific tips, like remembering to include salt and potassium in your diet, wear goggles or glasses at all times (thanks to the dust) and put coloured tape on your tent guy-lines. The Burning Man website also has some more specific tips on how to prepare and what to do in an emergency. Check out the infographic below, along with a stunning after-movie from last year’s event.
