As previously reported, MAGIC! tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week with “Rude” and Charli XCX charges into the top 10 with “Boom Clap,” which rises 11-10. Who else thunders up the Hot 100 this week?
Enrique Iglesias: “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, pushes 13-12, highlighted by an uncommon radio airplay achievement. Rising 11-10 on Radio Songs (70 million in audience, up 5 percent, according to Nielsen BDS), “Bailando” is the first top 10 not available in a predominantly English mix since… Los Del Rio‘s “Macarena.” That pop culture classic reached No. 7 on Radio Songs in 1996. Katy Perry: Her former four-week Hot 100 No. 1, featuring Juicy J, rebounds 23-16 thanks to a little viral help. Make that a little viral helper: A clip featuring the song’s official audio, posted on YouTube by user Eva Baker on Aug. 4, shows a baby going from tears to blissful giggling once she hears the song. In turn, the track jumps 15-7 on Streaming Songs with a 50 percent surge to 5.6 million U.S. streams. It bounds from 363,000 to 1.9 million YouTube (non-Vevo) views. Meanwhile, “This Is How We Do,” Perry’s fifth single from her album Prism, lifts 88-66 in its second week on the Hot 100. It debuts at No. 37 on the Pop Songs airplay chart.
OneRepublic: At No. 35, “Counting Stars” becomes the 14th title to spend at least 60 weeks on the Hot 100. That’s of the more than 25,000 titles to grace the list in its 56-year history. The song peaked at No. 2 in January. The band’s newer “Love Runs Out” ranks at No. 23.
Vance Joy: The Melbourne, Australia native rises 70-64 on the Hot 100 and tops both Rock Airplay and Alternative Songs, rising 2-1 on each chart, with his breakthrough hit “Riptide.” Since Rock Airplay launched more than five years ago, the folk singer/songwriter (real name James Keogh) is just the second solo male to reign in a lead role. He follows Gotye (“Somebody That I Used to Know,” 2012), who, while born in Belgium, was raised in Melbourne. The only other lead soloist to top Rock Airplay? Lorde (“Royals,” 2013; “Team,” 2014), from neighboring New Zealand.
Pitbull: New at No. 93, “Fireball,” the first taste of Mr. 305’s album Globalization, expected this fall, features John Ryan, one of the track’s seven co-writers. It enters Digital Songs at No. 45 with 35,000 sold.
