One Direction, Nickelback
One Direction rules at the top of the chart this week, while Taylor Swift continues to kick ass at #2, Nickelback enjoys a Top 5 debut and Pentatonix & Michael Buble light the path for holiday album success.
Shrieks and squeals are resounding across the globe, as SYCO/Columbia’s One Direction celebrates FOUR’s spot at the top of the HITS Building Album Sales Chart this week with 401k. That’s the year’s second-biggest debut.
By the way, 1D’s last major release, Midnight Memories, streeted a year ago today and is currently enjoying sales over 1.4m RTD.
Big Machine’s Princess of Pop, Taylor Swift, who of course had the year’s top bow, brings in a sizable 213k (-31%), locking her in at #2 in her fourth week on the chart. Taylor should return to her cozy position at #1 again next week. We know what she’ll be thankful for this holiday.
Speaking of the holidays, RCA’s rising a cappella stars Pentatonix makes us wonder “Is it Christmas yet?” as That’s Christmas to Me rounds out the Top 3, raking in 99k (+198%) in its fifth week on the chart. Look for the wholesome fivesome to keep growing as the Yuletide nears.
Michael Buble’s perennial stocking-stuffer, Christmas (Reprise), which debuted on the chart in 2011, makes an appearance in the Top 10 at #9 with 33k (+22%). FYI, the seasonal smash is already three-times Platinum. Meanwhile, Idina Menzel’s Holiday Wishes moves #14-11 this week, snagging 32k (+26%) for Warner Bros.
As for the non-holiday highlights, Republic’s Nickelback bows at #4 with 75k for their eighth studio album, No Fixed Address.
And pass the popcorn, buddy; The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1 soundtrack appears at #17 with 23k for Republic’s Lorde-curated set. Not far behind is Hans Zimmer’s OST for Interstellar (#20, 20k). Sci-fi geeks love them some score music.
In case you were wondering, Frozen’s full OST sits at #19 with 21k for the Mouse House (-24%) and Frozen: The Songs, a less expensive edition that doesn’t include the film’s score, moves to #14 with 25k (+95%). Children are not as into the score music. And parents are very into saving a few bucks.
In their second weeks, Roswell/RCA’s Foo Fighters slide #2-7 with 41k (-79%), Pearl/RCA Nashville’s Garth Brooks dips #4-5 with 61k (-51%) and Columbia’s Pink Floyd goes #3-6 with 44k (-74%)
