Apple are to allow music buyers to return any album purchased from iTunes to be returned for a full refund with no questions asked.

Purchasers will be able to get a refund if they cancel their order within 14 days of buying any song or full album.

A report by 9-To-5 Mac highlighted new terms and conditions for iTunes users which state: “Right of cancellation: If you choose to cancel your order, you may do so within 14 days from when you received your receipt without giving any reason, except iTunes gifts which cannot be refunded once you have redeemed the code.”

The move has led to fears that the charts could potentially be rigged by organised fan groups who could purchase multiple copies of an album to increase a chart position, and return them under the new refund rules the following Monday once the charts are compiled.

Chart compilers Official Charts Company said they were unable to comment when contacted by NME. However, there are existing rules in place that track multiple-purchased albums from online and physical retailers, which are disqualified from chart placings.
