Last month Lil Wayne surprised fans when he publicly declared that he was at odds with Birdman and his longtime label Cash Money Records — and things can’t be great for the artists who are caught in the middle. One of them is Christina Milian, who signed with YMCMB back in 2012 and is working on a new album.
While attending the premiere of Fox’s new series “Empire,” Milian told HollywoodToday that things haven’t been easy internally.
“It’s a little difficult. I’m on the same record label. I’m on Young Money, so it’s a little difficult when it comes to business, understand the circumstance for all of them,” she said. “I think everyone’s trying to work it out and I wish [them the] best. Honestly it’s been an empire that has been built between Baby and with Lil Wayne.”
In December, Wayne sent a series of tweets expressing his displeasure with Birdman and Cash Money and the way the label is handling the release of his upcoming and oft-delayed Tha Carter V. The situation still appears to be unresolved as Wayne gets set to release his Sorry 4 The Wait 2 mixtape.
“You can only hope for the best and big things for the both of them, that they continue this grind that they have,” Milian continued. “They basically paved the way for people like myself having the opportunity to become successful. I pray it all works out. I know he prays the same thing, nothing but the best.”
Nicki Minaj was recently asked about her position in the dispute as well, and she expressed loyalty to both parties.
