Beloved London club Plastic People is reportedly closing.
The Shoreditch club – once home of FWD>>, as well as London residencies for Theo Parrish, Carl Craig, Four Tet, Floating Points and more – has faced its fair share of problems in recent years, with its license threatened by police in 2010 (prompting a petition to keep the club open, and causing the venue to adapt to restrictions in terms of its sound and layout).
People close to the club have referenced its closure on social media several times today (including Josey Rebelle, a resident at the club’s Nonsense night), and a source has told FACT that the club will be closing imminently, with a RSVP-only party for a send-off. Scottish label Huntley and Palmers, who booked Thursday nights at Plastic People, announced last month that their latest Thursday would be their last. Plastic People are yet to make an official statement though, so the news for now is unconfirmed.
It’s worth noting that Plastic People had venues prior to its current Shoreditch location, so there’s a chance that it will eventually re-emerge at to a new location, rather than shut its doors for good. For now though, it looks like the end for the Shoreditch spot that was formative for many of this generation’s most talented and popular DJs and producers.
