Amy Winehouse Doc Gets U.K. Release Date

Amy, the upcoming documentary telling the story of Amy Winehouse, will be released in the U.K. on July 3, less than a month shy of the fourth anniversary of the singer’s death.

To mark the news, a teaser poster for the film (see The Hollywood Reporter) was unveiled on Wednesday. The first minute-long trailer debuted at Universal Music Group’s pre-Grammy brunch in February.

First announced in 2013, Amy was directed by Asif Kapadia, and uses unseen archive footage and previously unheard tracks. The British filmmaker’s 2010 documentary Senna, about late Formula One star Ayrton Senna, earned critical acclaim and picked up two BAFTA awards.

Winehouse, who rose to international fame with her second album Back to Black, died on July 23, 2011 from alcohol poisoning.

Altitude is handling the U.K. release. No U.S. distributor for Amy has yet been announced. [Billboard]
